EBESM

The “Enhancement of the Business Environment in the Southern Mediterranean” Project (called the EBESM Project) aims to contribute to the improvement of the business enabling environment for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the Southern Mediterranean region (MED) in line with best European approaches, namely the “Small Business Act” for Europe (SBA), a comprehensive policy framework for SME policy adopted by the EU in 2008. EBESM objectives will be achieved through the strengthening of technical expertise and capacity of partners engaged in the promotion of SMEs. This is expected to expand the private sector through the development of more robust, inclusive and sustainable growth.
EBESM is a major component of the €12m   “Private sector development in the Southern Mediterranean programme”, targeting SMEs by intervening at:

  • macro-level (MSME business enabling environment);  – the EBESM Project implemented by GIZ;
  • meso-level (reinforcing MSME support agencies); the EUROMED Invest project, implemented by ANIMA; and
  • micro-level (support for regional clusters in the cultural and creative industries); implemented by UNIDO.
